About Me

I'm an award-winning journalist with 19 years' experience working with local, national and international print and digital media for consumer and trade markets. As a magazine editor and features writer, I have contributed to publications in regional and global markets covering diverse beats and topics, including but not limited to lifestyle, travel, cuisine, culture, business, wellness, technology, diversity, inclusion, and disability.
Currently, I am the publisher and editor of Traveler and Tourist - a digital subscriber-only monthly lifestyle magazine created in California for a global audience. My editorial experience includes managing several glossy monthly print publications in Southern California and my bylines have appeared in various publications, select samples of which can be reviewed on my portfolio page. I am also the editor with Diversity Professional and copy editor with Gulfshore Life.

Other services I provide include copy editing and proofreading, crafting website and newsletter copy, blogging, covering conferences, social media, and creating public relations and marketing materials. I offer clear, correct, concise, complete and consistent copy and edits, no matter the channel or audience targeted. I also specialize in translation and localization services (French and Hindi). Select client testimonials are available on this site, with an extended version available on my LinkedIn profile.

Professional affiliations - I am a member of the Los Angeles Press Club, American Society of Business Publication Editors, Society for Professional Journalists, Society for American Business Editors and Writers and National Association of Travel Journalists and Authors.

I volunteer my time and skills with Global Girl Project, a nonprofit based in the United Kingdom, providing leadership training skills to young girls and women in developing countries.

"Ruksana spoke to my PR students at Pepperdine University about travel journalism and it was a really fun and interesting talk - We learned so much! I suggest that PR professors invite her to present a 'journalist's perspective': How to build media relations, how to pitch, what media expects from a PR person, what not to do, etc. "
