About Me

Sav Rodgers is a filmmaker and writer from Kansas City. His work tends to center on the queer experience through a comedic or personal lens. He is the director of Chasing Chasing Amy (2022), an upcoming feature documentary about the cultural impact of Chasing Amy (1997) on the greater LGBTQ+ community and the profound, lasting impression on his own life. Sav also delivered a TED Talk on the subject titled, “The rom-com that saved my life.”

In 2014, Sav founded Professional Amateur Productions as a film student at the University of Kansas. Since its creation, Sav’s films have been featured at numerous film festivals worldwide, including Academy Award-qualifying events such as Slamdance and the Cleveland International Film Festival. His last short film, Queen for a Day (2019), made its international debut at the American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, he received the Filmmaker of the Year Award at the Austin Revolution Film Festival. He has many new films in the works, including surreal comedies (Pancake Skank, Ethical Dentist), mockumentaries (Telethon: The Quest to Save Grease 2's Reputation), and documentaries about the LGBTQ+ experience (No Reason for Celebration).

In addition to his work as a director/writer, Sav is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Transgender Film Center, an arts nonprofit that helps trans creators bring finished films to audiences around the world. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Transgender Film Center, Film Society KC, and on the Advisory Council of the Vidiots Foundation. Sav has also programmed at numerous film festivals, including Slamdance, Outfest, and the Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival.
